The Houston rodeo always delivers its share of memorable moments, but Wednesday night added a uniquely Houston—and Texans—twist.

During RodeoHouston, country-rock artist Koe Wetzel brought his gritty, high-energy performance to a sold-out NRG Stadium crowd of more than 57,000 fans. Known for his raw, unfiltered style, Wetzel leaned into what he called “Texas rock and roll,” turning the night into a loud, rowdy singalong from start to finish.

But one of the biggest surprises came before the music fully took over.

Houston legend Paul Wall made a special appearance, riding into the arena while performing “Grillz” from the back of a red vintage Ford convertible. Behind the wheel? Texans owner Cal McNair.

Riding alongside him were Hannah McNair and rodeo chairman Pat Mann Phillips, creating a moment that blended Houston sports, music, and culture all in one scene.

It was a small but powerful reminder of how connected the McNair family remains to the Houston community. Whether it’s through the Texans organization, the Houston Texans Foundation, or appearances like this at one of the city’s biggest annual events, their presence continues to show up in meaningful—and sometimes unexpected—ways.

On a night filled with gritty vocals, roaring guitars, and a surprise hip-hop crossover, it was only fitting that a Houston icon like Paul Wall shared the spotlight… with the Texans’ owner driving him to the stage.
