Jerrod Johnson has quickly landed on his feet.
After parting ways with the Houston Texans earlier this offseason, the former Texans quarterbacks coach is joining the Philadelphia Eagles’ coaching staff, according to reports. Johnson will now work under head coach Nick Sirianni and new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion in Philadelphia.
Importantly, Johnson’s departure from Houston was not a firing. The two sides mutually agreed to part ways, allowing Johnson the opportunity to pursue other roles around the league. That clarification adds key context to what initially felt like an abrupt change in the Texans’ offensive staff.
Johnson spent the past two seasons working closely with C.J. Stroud, playing a role in Stroud’s early development and historic rookie campaign. While Houston has since adjusted its quarterback coaching structure, Johnson’s reputation around the league remains strong.
Now, he gets a fresh start in Philadelphia with a playoff-caliber roster and an opportunity to continue building his résumé on one of the NFL’s more stable coaching staffs.
