Houston Texans running back Woody Marks spent part of his offseason giving back to the Houston community Sunday night during the Woody Marks Foundation celebrity bowling event at Lucky Strike in Bunker Hill.
The event brought together fans, local businesses, teammates, and supporters for a night centered around community, family, and helping kids both in Houston and Marks’ hometown of Atlanta.
Local sponsors including Jesse's Burgers & Shakes and Trill Burgers were involved in supporting the event as fans packed the venue throughout the evening.
Marks repeatedly emphasized how much it meant to see families and kids enjoying themselves while also using the event to give back.
“It’s amazing just seeing everybody smile, being in this community,” Marks said. “Just being one year here, seeing a lot of people come out.”
He also spoke about wanting the foundation to be more than just an appearance from football players.
“We’re not just football players, we’re regular humans,” Marks said during another interview at the event. “Having something where parents can bring their kids means a lot.”
Marks explained that his foundation focuses heavily on helping children through community outreach, schools, hospitals, and events that create positive experiences for kids.
“I was a little kid once,” Marks said. “Seeing players come around made me want to go harder.”
The second-year Texans running back said spending time around NFL players growing up inspired him and helped shape the way he now approaches community involvement himself.
The event also featured support from new teammate David Montgomery. Marks shared that the two have already been spending time together this offseason as Montgomery continues settling into Houston.
Marks also spoke briefly about his own expectations entering year two with the Texans and said he believes there is still plenty of room for growth in his game.
“My second year was a little mediocre to me,” Marks said. “I have a lot of growth to do.”
Part of that growth includes becoming more involved in the passing game under offensive coordinator Nick Caley.
“I’m doing a lot this year. Been out there with the receivers,” Marks said. “Learning the routes, learning how to draw body ups. Learning how to get off the line of scrimmage. I want to have a bigger role in the receiving game.”
Marks added that Caley has been moving him around the formation and using him in different ways out of the backfield as the Texans continue installing the offense.
Marks also made it clear that effort and consistency are major priorities for him entering the season.
“When I’m on the field I gotta give it my all,” Marks said. “I just want to be the best person to myself, my team, to Houston, our fans. I’ll go through whatever, injuries, fight through it no matter what because I know my teammates need me.”
The quote continued to reinforce the theme of growth and accountability Marks carried throughout the event while discussing both football and his role in the community.
The event itself carried a relaxed atmosphere throughout the night with Marks interacting with fans, bowling alongside attendees, taking photos, and spending time with families and supporters across the venue.
Marks shared that he is currently getting a customized bowling ball made featuring his picture and Texans uniform inside the ball.
With Houston entering a season filled with national attention and multiple primetime games, Marks said the team is eager to get started.
“It’s a nice schedule,” Marks said. “Got a lot of primetime games. Big-time games. We’re just ready to kick it off.”
For one night though, the focus stayed away from football results and instead centered on community impact, family, and creating experiences for kids and fans throughout Houston.
