The Houston Texans’ tight end room has taken a major hit.
Texans beat reporter Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle announced today that Brevin Jordan has been placed on Injured Reserve following the leg injury he suffered in practice yesterday. The injury is to the same knee Jordan tore his ACL in last season. Because he was placed on IR before the roster cutdown deadline, NFL rules require him to miss the entire 2025 season.
The setback ends what was supposed to be a bounce-back year for Jordan, who was drafted in the fifth round out of Miami in 2021 and had built a reputation for his elite speed at the position and ability to deliver in key moments. After tearing his ACL in Week 2 against the Colts last season, Jordan worked his way back and looked strong in preseason action last Saturday with a couple of catches and improved blocking.
Yesterday’s injury occurred when Jordan went up for a touchdown on a seam route in the end zone and landed awkwardly. Reporters described the scene as emotional, with visible pain and audible shouts from Jordan before he was carted off. Known as one of the most respected players in the Texans’ locker room, his loss is both a personnel and culture blow for the team.
In a corresponding move reported by Aaron Wilson with KPRC2, the Texans signed veteran offensive tackle Connor McDermott. A sixth-round pick out of UCLA in 2017, McDermott has had two stints with the New England Patriots and played for the Los Angeles Rams last season. His addition continues a trend under the Texans’ staff of bringing in players with ties to offensive line coach Cole Popovich and offensive coordinator Nick Caley. That connection has been evident in other recent additions, including Zach Thomas, Jakob Johnson, Dalton Keene, and Jake Andrews.
The Texans’ tight end depth now consists of Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover, Irv Smith Jr., and Luke Lachey heading into the regular season. Jakob Johnson and Dalton Keene who are fullbacks, can play some of the tight end role as well.
