At the Texans’ annual charity golf tournament, the message around C.J. Stroud stayed consistent from the top down.
Cal McNair was asked about a potential extension and didn’t offer much in terms of details, but he didn’t need to. He made it clear the organization is “fully committed” to Stroud while also pointing out that those conversations are handled behind the scenes with Nick Caserio.
Shortly after, DeMeco Ryans echoed that same tone. He focused on Stroud’s offseason, saying he’s preparing the right way and putting in the work. He also noted that Stroud has been spending a lot of time with offensive coordinator Nick Caley and quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski, which lines up with the bigger picture of this offseason.
Taken together, it’s pretty straightforward. Nobody from ownership, the front office, or the coaching staff is giving anything away about how contract talks are going or where things could be headed. There aren’t any hints, timelines, or pressure points being put out publicly.
But there also isn’t anything close to doubt.
Every comment continues to reinforce the same thing — full support for Stroud and a focus on his development within the new offense. The organization is aligned in how they’re talking about him, even if they’re staying quiet on the business side of it.
That’s where things stand right now publicly.
I’ve got a more in-depth breakdown dropping soon on whether I think an extension happens this offseason, and whether it should.
