Houston Texans Announce 53-Man Roster for 2025 Season

The Houston Texans have officially set their 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The roster was finalized before Tuesday’s deadline and includes a mix of returning starters, offseason acquisitions, and several rookies. The announcement also confirmed which players will begin the season on reserve lists, including the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and Injured Reserve.


Quarterbacks (3)

The Texans will carry three quarterbacks into the season: C.J. Stroud, entering his second year as the team’s starter, along with backups Davis Mills and rookie Graham Mertz.

Running Backs (5)

Houston kept five running backs, highlighted by newly acquired veteran Nick Chubb and third year back Dameon Pierce. Depth comes from Dare Ogunbowale, rookie Woody Marks, and British Brooks.

Offensive Line (9)

Up front, the Texans will carry four tackles: (R) Aireontae Ersery, Tytus Howard, Blake Fisher, and Cam Robinson. The guard group features Laken Tomlinson, Ed Ingram, and Juice Scruggs, while Jake Andrews and Jarrett Patterson will handle duties at center.

Tight Ends (2)

The Texans kept two tight ends: veteran starter Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover.

Wide Receivers (7)

The wide receiver room is among the deepest position groups, with seven players making the cut: Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, Xavier Hutchinson, (R) Jayden Higgins, (R) Jaylin Noel, Braxton Berrios, and Justin Watson.

Defensive Line (10)

The defensive front is loaded with depth, including five defensive ends: Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter, Derek Barnett, Darrell Taylor, and Dylan Horton. Inside, the defensive tackle group features Sheldon Rankins, Mario Edwards, Foley Fatukasi, Tim Settle Jr., and Tommy Togiai.

Linebackers (6)

Six linebackers made the roster: Azeez Al-Shaair, Christian Harris, Henry To’oTo’o, E.J. Speed, Jamal Hill, and Jake Hansen.

Secondary (8)

The safety group includes C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Calen Bullock, and M.J. Stewart. Jalen Pitre will handle nickel responsibilities, while cornerbacks Derek Stingley Jr., Kamari Lassiter, (R) Jaylin Smith, and Tremon Smith round out the defensive backfield.

Special Teams (3)

On special teams, Ka’imi Fairbairn returns as kicker, Tommy Townsend takes over punting duties, and (R) Austin Brinkman will serve as long snapper.



Reserve Lists

Several players will not be available to start the season:

  • Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List: DE Denico Autry, DT Kurt Hinish, WR Tank Dell

  • Reserve/Injured (Designated to Return): S Jaylen Reed (R)

  • Reserve/Injured: TE Irv Smith Jr., WR Juwann Winfree

  • Reserve/Non-Football Injury: RB Joe Mixon, DB Alijah Huzzie (R)

  • Commissioner’s Exempt List: S Jimmie Ward

This 53-man roster sets the foundation for Houston as the team prepares for the start of the 2025 season.
