The Houston Texans have brought back right guard Ed Ingram, securing a key piece of their offensive line before the start of free agency.

After reports suggested Ingram could command somewhere in the $15–18 million per year range, Houston getting a deal done at a lower number represents strong value and keeps continuity along the offensive front.

For a team looking to stabilize its offensive line heading into the 2026 season, retaining Ingram makes a lot of sense.

Building on His Best Season

Ingram is coming off the best season of his career, showing noticeable improvement, especially in run blocking.

His physical presence inside fits the type of offensive identity the Texans want to build under Nick Caley and offensive line coach Cole Popovich, particularly in a system that leans heavily on duo and inside zone concepts.

Rather than letting a young lineman leave after a breakout year, the Texans opted to keep him in-house and allow him to continue developing within the same system.

That kind of stability is valuable for a unit that has experienced significant turnover in recent seasons.

Continuity Returning to the Offensive Line

With Ingram now locked in at right guard, Houston at the least has four of five offensive line spots already accounted for based on last year's group and offseason additions.

Current projected starters:

  • LT: Aireontae Ersery

  • C: Jake Andrews

  • RG: Ed Ingram

  • RT: Trent Brown

That continuity is important for an offensive line that dealt with injuries and rotation last season.

Keeping familiar pieces together allows the unit to build chemistry and communication, something head coach DeMeco Ryans has emphasized as a priority.

What This Means for Free Agency

With right guard now settled, Houston’s focus in free agency can shift primarily to left guard and potentially center depth or upgrade, while removing several right guard options from consideration.

Many free agent guards who primarily play on the right side can likely be crossed off the Texans’ list including:

  • Wyatt Teller

  • Kevin Zeitler

  • James Daniels

  • Greg Van Roten

  • Alijah Vera-Tucker

  • Mekhi Becton

  • Daniel Faalele

Potential targets Houston may still pursue include:

Left Guard Options

  • Joel Bitonio

  • David Edwards

  • Elgton Jenkins

  • Isaac Seumalo

  • Teven Jenkins

Center Options

  • Cade Mays

  • Elgton Jenkins

  • Tyler Linderbaum

  • Ethan Pocic

Adding one of these players could round out the final starting spot while strengthening the interior depth.

Final Thoughts

Retaining Ed Ingram may not be the splashiest move of the offseason, but it could prove to be one of the more important ones.

At a time when the Texans are working to rebuild stability along the offensive line, bringing back a player coming off the best season of his career provides both value and continuity.

With four offensive line positions now accounted for, Houston can enter free agency with a much clearer focus on finishing the unit and continuing to build the protection needed for C.J. Stroud.
